About San Fermín

The festival of San Fermín runs from 6 to 14 July in Pamplona, in honour of the town's patron saint. It starts at noon on 6 July with the Chupinazo, a rocket fired from the town hall balcony while the crowd, dressed in white with red neckerchiefs, sprays one another with wine. Every morning at 8 a.m., the encierro takes place: runners go in front of six bulls and some steers on an 875-metre course through the old town, to the bullring. It lasts only a few minutes and is dangerous. The days are filled with parades of giants and big-heads, brass bands, dancers, sports and fireworks. On the last night, people gather with candles and sing the "Pobre de mí", poor me, as the fiesta ends.
