Dallah

The long-spouted brass coffee pot of the Arab world.

A pattern drawn for this page, not a picture of Dallah.

Also: dalla

The dallah is the traditional Arabic coffee pot, with a long curved spout, a pointed lid and a high handle, made of brass, copper or steel. It is used to brew and pour qahwa, and a house may own several in different sizes: one to cook, one to serve. It stands as a symbol of hospitality in Saudi Arabia, the Emirates and Qatar, and a dallah features on coins and logos. The pouring is done with the left hand holding the pot and the right hand the cups, and the host must never refuse a guest. Antique dallahs, handed down in families, are prized.
