About Hanuman Jayanti
Hanuman Jayanti marks the birth of Hanuman, the devoted companion of Rama in the Ramayana, known for strength and loyalty. In most of north India it falls on the full moon of Chaitra, while in some southern states it is kept on another date. Devotees visit Hanuman temples at dawn, apply vermilion paste and flowers to his image, recite the Hanuman Chalisa, and often read from the Sundara Kanda. In wrestling traditions, akharas honour him as their patron, and gyms and wrestling pits hold their own prayers. Prasad of boondi laddu or sweet halwa is shared with all who attend, and many people fast until the evening.
