About Las Fallas

Las Fallas is held in Valencia from 15 to 19 March, and honours Saint Joseph. Neighbourhood associations spend the year building fallas, enormous sculptures of wood, cardboard and papier-mâché, which poke witty fun at politics and public life. Through the days, the city has daily mascletà, a noon firework display in which the noise and rhythm of firecrackers is the point, brass band processions, and an offering of flowers, the Ofrenda, in which thousands of people dress in traditional costume and bring bouquets to a wooden frame of the Virgin. On the last night, the Cremà, every falla is set alight, with fireworks, except the one that has been chosen by the public to be saved. The festival is listed by UNESCO.
