About Mimouna

Mimouna is celebrated by Jews of Moroccan and North African origin on the night that Passover ends and the following day. Houses are open to all visitors, whether friends, neighbours or strangers, and tables are laid with green leaves, flowers, coins, a bowl of flour with five beans and a fish, which are signs of blessing. The special food is the mufleta, a thin yeasted pancake which is stacked, spread with butter and honey and folded. Other sweets include moufleta, fresh dairy and jams, which are the first chametz allowed after the week of matzah. People greet one another with "Tarbahu vetis'adu", "may you prosper and succeed". In Israel, the day has grown into a large national festival, with picnics, music and politicians visiting the open houses.
