Yurt
The round felt tent of the Central Asian steppe, a home for nomads.
Also: ger, yurta
A yurt, or ger in Mongolia, is a round tent of felt over a lattice of wooden poles, with a roof ring open to the sky. It can be taken down and carried by a few animals and put up again in hours. The door faces south, the hearth is in the centre, and the places in it follow a fixed order, with the guest of honour opposite the door and the women's side to the east. Visitors step over the threshold, not on it. Yurts are still home to many herders, and are used as guesthouses, cafes and tourist camps.
