When is Loy Krathong in 2026?

Loy Krathong 2026 is on Tuesday, 24 November 2026. The date follows the moon or a local calendar, so it can move by a day. Other years: 2027, Saturday, 13 November 2027; 2028, Thursday, 2 November 2028.

About Loy Krathong

Loy Krathong takes place on the full moon night of the twelfth lunar month. People make small floating bowls, krathong, from banana trunk, banana leaves and flowers, and add incense, a candle and a coin. They make a wish, then set the krathong on a river, canal or pond. The act expresses thanks to the water goddess Phra Mae Khongkha and lets go of grudges and bad luck. In northern Thailand, the festival merges with the Yi Peng lantern release in Chiang Mai, where thousands of paper lanterns rise into the sky. Many Thai people wear traditional dress, hold beauty contests and eat from food stalls by the water. Biodegradable materials are now encouraged.
