When is Nyepi in 2027?

Nyepi 2027 is on Tuesday, 9 March 2027. The date follows the moon or a local calendar, so it can move by a day. Other years: 2028, Sunday, 26 March 2028.

About Nyepi

Nyepi is the Balinese new year in the Saka calendar. The day before, villages make papier-mache ogoh-ogoh, giant monsters, parade them through the streets with gamelan and torches at dusk, and then burn them, driving out evil spirits. On Nyepi itself the whole island is silent. People stay at home, do not light fires or lamps, avoid travel, work and entertainment, and may fast. Hotels dim their lights, the airport closes, and local watchmen, pecalang, patrol the streets. The island sky is clear, and the stars are bright. The next day, Ngembak Geni, families visit and forgive each other. Ritual cleansing at the sea, Melasti, takes place some days before.
