Cinnamon bun

The spiced swirl bun of Sweden, with its own day on 4 October.

Also: kanelbulle

The kanelbulle is a yeast bun, rolled with butter, sugar and cinnamon and often topped with pearl sugar. It is the classic partner to a Swedish fika, and Swedes celebrate Cinnamon Bun Day, Kanelbullens dag, on 4 October. The bun became popular in the 1920s, once cinnamon and sugar became affordable. Variants are found in Denmark, Norway and Finland, where a cardamom-flavoured version called korvapuusti is common. Bakeries and home bakers sell them warm, with coffee. In many Swedish households, baking cinnamon buns for guests is a mark of hospitality.
