Kimono
The T-shaped robe that is the traditional dress of Japan.

The kimono, meaning a thing to wear, is a T-shaped robe wrapped left over right and held by a broad sash, the obi. Silk kimono for formal occasions are woven, dyed or embroidered, and the style, colour and sleeve length show age, marital status and season. Young women wear furisode with long sleeves at coming-of-age ceremonies, and brides wear white shiromuku. Men wear darker, simpler ones, and cotton yukata are worn in summer for festivals and fireworks. Dressing in kimono is a skill taught by specialists, and the craft of weaving and dyeing the cloth is supported as a national treasure.
