Hanbok
Korean traditional dress, with a short jacket and full skirt or trousers.
Also: joseon-ot
The hanbok is the traditional Korean costume, made up of a short jacket, jeogori, and a full wrap skirt, chima, for women, and a jacket with loose trousers, baji, for men. Its lines are simple and its colours bright, with bold contrasts for children and festive occasions. It is worn at Seollal, Chuseok, weddings and first birthdays, and a hanbok rental shop is a common sight in Seoul near the palaces. Fabrics range from plain cotton to silk with embroidered motifs of peonies, cranes and pine. Many young Koreans now wear modernised versions on the street.
